  • Straight Superiors at FBA (10/24/09)

Saturday's big event has put the Alliance back in the Straight Superior club! Those that follow the Alliance may remember that in the last season, though they did earn an overall Superior at FBA, they did have one excellent in auxiliary. Not so this year! The Alliance has been working very hard in every aspect of marching and performance, and it obviously is showing. And what better way to celebrate such a victory than with pieing the drum majors in the face! Yes, there was Cool Whip everywhere that evening, but they were good sports about it. Stay tuned for more Alliance updates!

  • Grand Start at Chiefland HS Marching Competition (10/10/09)

The Chiefland marching competition was indeed a grand start for the season as the Alliance took home the event's Grand Champion trophy. With a score of 73.35, the Alliance stood strong as they left the field and placed a new personal record for their best first score in a season. Nevertheless, the Alliance still knows they have much distance to clear, and one more song to put on, before they are ready to take on states. However, with their show now put though its first official paces, the outlook for a promising season beams strongly on the horizon. Stay tuned for the Alliance's next event, when they will have their complete show ready to run on the field.

  • Beach Party! (5/22/09)

Since the corps was not able to have an official banquet this year, it has been decided that a beach party will be held instead. The beach party will take place at Englewood Beach on May 28th at 2pm. This is directly after graduation practice for the graduating seniors.

  • The Alliance takes the Rank of 9th in the State! (11/22/08)

And so, after a season unlike any before, the Alliance attains a rank of 9th in all of the 2A state. And though the season had to end at Prelims, it was still the Alliance's most successful season to date. They accomplished their main goal of the season by breaking 80, and even attained a few unexpected bonus ones! The Alliance is now in the process of planning their new show for the 2009 marching season.

  • Profitable Fundraiser Opportunity - Paver Bricks

The corps has just been given an excellent opportunity to raise money for itself by selling engraved paver bricks that will be embedded at the intersection of Salford and US41. Bricks are $50 and can have 3 lines of 15 letters each on them. 100% of the sales go to the corps. Jump on this great opportunity to help out the corps, and become part of North Ports 50th anniversary history. Download the form Here!

  • Block Score! (11/09/08)

With a score of 85.8, the Alliance has now "Blocked" for their undoubtable participation in the upcoming State Finals on November 22nd. Blocking will give them the opportunity to perform later in the day before a larger crowd. But Blocking aside, the NPHS Alliance put on a fantastic show. And despite the fact that they competed on division higher than normal, they still were able to land first place. In fact the Alliance was only ousted by 5A Durant HS with a score of 91. Still with a 85.8, the corps has once again set a new record high score for themselves. And among much joy and jubilation, the Alliance bought back the event's runner up trophy. Look for the Alliance at Braden River HS on November 22nd as they participate in 2A Prelims, and then Tropicana Field as they move on to States.

  • Additional News (11/04/08)

It has been announced that the Alliance will be competing in class 3A, instead of their usual 2A, at their upcoming participation at Mariner. This decision has been made at the request of those running the event. It was asked that a group volunteer to compete in 3A, because the original number of 2A bands would have forced a judges' break in between their performances. Generally, this is bad to do, as it breaks the judges' flow of pace which can affect judgment. With North Port moving into the 3A class, this break will not have to happen in between 2A groups. However, though this means that North Port will be competing with larger groups, it does not mean that they will be at a definite disadvantage. In fact, the Alliance volunteered for this move to gain an advantage. This advantage is in the form of competing later in the day to a much larger audience. And with a larger audience, comes more energy for the Alliance to thrive off of.

  • Story of the Week (11/02/08)

To say that Alliance’s participation in the Lakewood Ranch Music in Motion invitational was a major step in their history would not be satisfactory enough to express the day's outcome. Finally obtaining their long time goal of breaking a score of 80, the Alliance left the field with a score of 82.10. Not only that, but for the first time ever, the Alliance had earned the title of event Grand Champion! It was truly an exciting night, and the Alliance’s members could not seem to contain their excitement as the scores were announced and the trophies carried over. However, there is still much to improve, and the Alliance intends to strive on for a higher score at their next event.

I will always be in North Port, where the mighty Bobcats roam.
Alma Mater there is standing; she will always be my home.
Through the victories and losses, bravely standing from the start.
And wherever I may wander, she is ever in my heart.

History in a Nutshell

The North Port High School Alliance Drum and Bugle Corps is a DCI inspired high school drum corps. Students at the school are given the unique opportunity to sign up for the Alliance Corps as a class elective and participate in a season of marching, playing, and touring like any DCI or DCA corps would do.

The Alliance Drum and Bugle Corps was the brainchild of the school's principal, Dr. George Kenney, and a seasoned band director, Mr. Owen Bradley. Together, along with the support of the surrounding community, the school - which was still under construction - was able to purchase brand new Dynasty Bb horns and Pearl drums. And by the time of the school's grand opening in 2001, the corps was able to usher it in with their first public hearing.

Since then, the Alliance has been growing strong and rapid with much interest. Members of the corps are taught the history of drum corps so they know their roots. DCI and DCA recordings are common class study material. Alliance members are treated the same way in which any DCI or DCA corps would be treated and are expected to act with the pride, honor, and self discipline any DCI or DCA corps would be expected to have. They know that there is no substitute for hard work and discipline.

The NPHS Alliance Drum and Bugle Corps is to this day, growing and working hard to achieve its goals. Though they may be a high school drum corps, they have DCI spirit.

Drum Corps Tip

Ah yes, its that time of year again - practice time!

Think you are ready? Think again. You need more than just your instrument to have a safe and enjoyable practice season. Remember, you are in Florida, and you have to face the Florida elements. Some things to have on hand:

  • Sunblock
  • Hat
  • Mosquito Repellent
  • Water
  • Lip Balm
  • Sunglasses
  • Shoes - no sandles or flipflops

Remeber, mosquitos, heat, and other weather are the enemy. Knowing how to prepare yourself ahead of time will prevent missery in the future, and allow you to get the most out of each pratice session.
